Darwin was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Lester L. and Lorene (Enninga) Buscher on February 25, 1958. He attended District 33 grade school in rural Adams County. He graduated from Adams Central High School in 1976. He attended Central Community College for auto repair. Darwin worked with his father on the family farm for many years. He loved being outdoors and fixing farm machinery. He had worked for other farmers in the area where he obtained the nickname "Fred." He used his love of working with his hands working for Darrel Kingsley at Central Valley Rentals in Hastings. He was able to make engines work and fix any machine with little "duck tape and bailing wire." He became the owner of Central Valley Rentals several years ago. He was proud of his home that he had remodeled by himself. His greatest joys of his life were his "adopted" daughter Tasha and his grandsons Tyce and Austin. He loved going to the boys' games, playing in the back yard with them, teaching them how to ride 4 wheelers safely and responsibly. He was so proud when Tasha became a nurse. Darwin was usually quiet, but his daredevil spirit shone when he was aboard a 4 wheeler on the sand dunes with his friends Rick, Eddie, Bruce and others.
Darwin was preceded in death by his father, Lester; and his grandparents, Henry & Leona Buscher and R. D. " Robert" & Marie Enninga.
