David Schmidt

Hastings resident, David W. Schmidt, 78, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Kensington.

Services will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Rathod officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, Mary Lanning Hospice or The Kensington. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 23, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

David was born January 23, 1935 in Adams County, Nebraska to Carl H. & Lena M. (Schultz) Schmidt. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1952 and served in the United States Air Force from September 14, 1953 until September 4, 1957. He married Arlene M. Hide on February 26, 1955 at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska. David was Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force Reserves on September 13, 1961. He graduated from Hastings College in 1961 with a BA in Business Administration. He worked for Hastings Typewriter Company and Allen's Sporting Goods in sales. David was very active member of the First United Methodist Church, Stephens Ministry and a Friend of Bill's. He had been a member of Sertoma.

David W. Schmidt was preceded in death by his father, daughter-in-law: Brenda Schmidt, sister-in-law: Mary Hide and brothers-in-law: Edward Leonard and Eugene Hide.
