Dawn Mattison

Holstein resident, Dawn M. Mattison, 43, of 17725 W. Fillmore, Holstein, Nebraska, died Monday, September 4, 2006 at her home.

Services will be Thursday September 7, 2006; 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Dan Heuer officiating. Burial will be at Holstein Cemetery, Holstein, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday 5pm-9pm, Wednesday 9am-9pm, Thursday 9am-11am at the funeral home, Thursday 1hr. prior at the church. Memorials to the family or York Specialty Clinic, York, Nebraska.

Mrs. Mattison was born April 8, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska to Harold Sr. & Eleanor (Haden) Ham. She had one older brother, Harold Jr. The family lived in Plattsmouth, Nebraska until Dawn was 4 years old, when they moved to Hastings. She attended Alcott School, followed by Zion Lutheran Junior & Hastings Senior High. She worked part time as a janitor, then worked for Adams County Senior Services, helping the elderly clean, shop and befriend. In 1984, she met and later married her soul mate, Donald Norman Mattison on September 22 in Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska. They lived in Hastings and on April 13, 1985, had there first son Matthew Mark. On March 13, 1986, they had a second son, Joshua David. Their third son, Brandon Adam was born March 26, 1989. Shortly after Brandon's birth, the family moved to Holstein where they still live. Dawn went to work at Wal-Mart in 1992 as a cashier, then moved to the service desk, csm, head of layaway and finally Jewelry Department Manager. In August of 1999, Dawn was diagnosed with cancer. She had surgery and went back to work and continued to fight for 7 more years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, past Hastings Jaycees member and an active member of Relay for Life, all in Hastings.

Mrs. Mattison was preceded in death by her grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
