Dennis L. "Doc" Washburn

Rural Fairfield resident Dennis L. “Doc” Washburn, 71, passed away Monday, November 20, 2023, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.    

Rosary will be at 10 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 25, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese with Father Adam Sparling officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin’s (Loucky) Cemetery, near Deweese. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church for renovations. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Doc was born November 12, 1952, in Fairfield, NE to LeVern R. and Vida (Cook) Washburn. He attended Fairfield Public Schools until eighth grade, graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1971 and was in the first class to attend Sandy Creek High School for four years, and attended Central Community College in Hastings. Doc married Deloris Drudik on April 19, 1975, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings; to this lovely marriage made two lovely sons, Ricky and Timmy Washburn.

Doc farmed in the area for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese where he played the organ from 1975 to 2000. Doc played music in dance bands for his hobby. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing pool, hunting, and collecting guns. His favorite saying was “Give me the news.”

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharon Washburn.
