Dixie Monie

Hastings resident, Dixie R. Monie, 74, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Graveside Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 15, 2017; 10:30 A.M. in Parkview Cemetery with Chaplain John Mueller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Dixie was born October 24, 1942 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Vernon R. & Virginia (Vance) Freeman. She graduated from Hastings High School and received her associate's degree in human services from Central Community College in Hastings. Dixie married Richard Monie in Hastings, Nebraska in 1974; they later divorced.

She spent many years as a community living instructor at Southwest Area Training Services-McCook, Nebraska and for Mid-Nebraska Individual Services in Hastings.

Dixie knew no strangers; she was admired for her compassion, selflessness, courage and strength. She touched the lives of everyone she crossed paths with and will be missed dearly by so many.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents and three infant brothers.

Survivors include: Daughter Michelle (Phil) Thomas and Granddaughters Lauryn and Sydney Thomas, all of Aurora, NE; Sister Helen (Jim) LaPorte, Hastings, NE; Brother Bill (Lindy) Freeman, Longwood, FL; many beloved Cousins, Nieces & Nephews.
