Donald Gibson

Donald LeRoy Gibson, 74, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at his home.

Services will be Monday, December 27, 2010; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Pete Phillips officiating, with Masonic rites. There will be a reception to follow at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday, December 27, 2010; 3:00 P.M. in Wilber Czech Cemetery, Wilber with Pastor Lila Bottolfsen. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the family.

Donald was born September 4, 1936 in Friend, Nebraska to Clyde & Gladys (Yant) Gibson. He was baptized in the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He graduated from Friend High School in 1954; and University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in business. He married Darlene Hayek on September 27, 1958. Donald and Darlene moved to Hastings in 1966. He worked in the Hastings area for years before purchasing G & L Transit of Grand Island where he owned and operated the business for the past 17 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #317, life member of the Shrine and Scottish Rite, Eagles, and the Platt-Duetsche of Grand Island. He played the drums in bands in Saline County and Hastings areas and also in the Tehama Shrine Band. He enjoyed hunting and other outdoor activities, attending dances, and attending the grandsons' sporting events.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
