Donald Hoeft

Hastings resident, Donald C. Hoeft, 74, of 1114 North Minnesota, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at his home.

Memorial services will be Sunday, February 1, 2009; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Dr. Judith Allen officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be Thursday, January 29, 2009; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present at the funeral home. Book signing Friday, January 30, 2009; 8:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Saturday, January 31, 2009; 8:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the family.

Mr. Hoeft was born December 15, 1934 in David City, Nebraska to Rolland and Lanaya (Doty) Hoeft. He attended Brown Park Grade School and South High School both in Omaha, Nebraska. He played baseball in a semi-pro league in Omaha. Don & Sharon (Wymore) were married in October of 1967 in Papillion, Nebraska and have been married for 41 years. Don was a beef lugger at several of the Omaha's smaller packing plants for 20 years. He did indoor & outdoor painting and roofing for 6 years. He moved to Hastings in 1975 while doing painting for Payless Shoe Source. He lugged beef at Minden Beef for 1 year and worked for Ziemba Roofing for about 2 years. Don started driving truck for Werner Construction in 1979, where he has remained for the last 30 years. He served in the United States Coast Guard in the Great Lakes Region.

Mr. Hoeft was preceded in death by his father, Rolland Hoeft, step father, Frank Dixson, mother, Lanaya Dixson and a brother, Rolland (Bud) Hoeft.
