Donald Janda

Donald J. Janda of Lincoln formerly of St. Edward, NE, 93, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 at Legacy Estates, Lincoln, NE.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, NE with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence, NE with military rites by American Legion Post #45. Memorials may be given to the Donald J. Janda Memorial Fund. There will be no visitation.

Donald was born March 1, 1925 to John & Rose (Mazour) Janda in Lawrence, NE. He served in the Army from August 1945 to November 1946. He graduated from Hastings College in 1950. He married Dorothy Gilsdorf on June 26, 1950. He was a math/science teacher who coached football, basketball, and track. He eventually owned and operated banks and insurance agencies in Swanton and St. Edward, Nebraska, until his retirement in 2008.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #45. He was past member of the American Bankers Association and Big Red Club. Donald was an avid Nebraska Husker sports fan who attended a majority of Nebraska football games from the start of the Devaney era to 2005 and, at 93, could still quote statistics of most Nebraska recruits. He also enjoyed golf, playing cards, traveling with friends and family but mostly spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  His greatest joy was seeing someone else have a good time.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 66 years Dorothy M. Janda; son, Robert Janda; brothers, Bernard Janda and Marion Janda.
