Donald Sittner

Hastings resident, Donald "Rusty" G. Sittner, 87, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Graveside services with military rites will be Friday, May 21, 2010; 1:00 P.M. at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings with Rev. Marcus McKay officiating. Procession will take place from Butler Volland Funeral Home prior to graveside service. There will be no visitation. There will be a book signing Thursday, May 20, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family in care of Shirley Wolf, PO Box 22, Martell, Nebraska 68404.

Don was born February 13, 1923 in Hastings, Nebraska to Jacob Sr. & Elizabeth (Lofing) Sittner. Don grew up in Hastings on Park Street known as "German/Russian Soup Bone Alley". Don graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1941. Don was a WW II 8th Army Air Force veteran serving from 1943-1945. February 11, 1946 he married Doris Bird in Mankato, Kansas, together they raised 3 children. Don worked at Sidles, K-B Ice Cream Co., Kerrco, and Dutton Lainson retiring in 1982.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jake Sittner, Adam Sock, and Walter Sittner; sisters, Dorothy Rhodes, Jeane Freese; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Rhodes, Harry Wright, Carl Wigert, and Harold Freese.
