Doran Marr

Hastings resident, Doran D. Marr, 88, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska with family at his side.

Rosary will be Saturday, August 17, 2013; 9:30 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will follow rosary with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, August 16, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to rosary at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Michael's Catholic Church or Hastings Catholic Schools Trust.

Mr. Marr was born December 10, 1924 to Harry Holmes & Nellie Grace (Marpel) Marr on a farm at Oak, Nebraska. He graduated from Ruskin High School in 1942. In 1948 he joined the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. On July 10, 1952, he married Thelma L. Jorn at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, Nebraska. They lived in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri until a transfer to Germany, and in Fort Meade, Maryland until an honorable discharge as Master Sergeant. They lived in Red Cloud and Omaha a few years before permanent settlement in Hastings. Doran was employed by Pickett Buick, A.H. Jones Chrysler and Great Plains Chrysler for 17 years as Service Manager before he retired. He then spent seven years with Thermo King and again took employment with Great Plains Chrysler. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Men's Club, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1346.

Doran was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Alfred.
