Doris Sittner

Hastings resident, Doris N. (Bird) Sittner, 89, went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, June 18, 2010 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 23, 2010; 11:00 A.M. at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings with Pastor Charles D. Johnson officiating. Procession will take place from Butler Volland Funeral Home prior to graveside services. There will be no visitation. Book signing will be Tuesday, June 22, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family in care of Shirley Wolf, P O Box 22, Martell, Nebraska 68404.

Doris was born January 9, 1921 in Pauline, Nebraska to George & Elizabeth (Bostock) Bird. She moved to a farm near Ayr, Nebraska where she was raised until the death of her mother, then moved to Hastings, Nebraska at the age of four years. She was then raised by her father and paternal grandmother. Doris graduated from Hastings Senior High in 1939. After graduation Doris worked at Nu Method Laundry and the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot. On February 11, 1946 Doris married Don "Rusty" Sittner, in Mankato, Kansas and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2010. Doris was a devoted and dedicated homemaker and mother.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Don "Rusty" Sittner, brother, Don Bird and brothers-in-law: Merle Heath and Harry Schwartzkopf.
