Doris Elaine Stromer

Hastings resident Doris Elaine Stromer, 83, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.    

Doris was born April 26, 1940, near Glenvil, NE, the daughter of Karl and Alma (Gartner) Enninga. She was raised on a farm in Adams County, where she attended District 78 School for eight years; then graduated from Hastings High School in 1957. She attended Hastings College for two years.

Doris married her best friend, Larry D. Stromer on June 7, 1959. They were married for 64 years. Doris enjoyed teaching, clerical work for many years, reading, studying, knitting, crocheting, and sports with Larry. She adored their pets.

In retirement, they especially enjoyed many long weekends in Estes Park, CO, during any month of the year. They always attended and loved the Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church. Doris was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Glenvil, NE. She served as an organist and pianist for many years. She knew the wonderful love and grace of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Doris is survived by her husband, Larry D. Stromer; special friends, John & Karen Wenzl of Lincoln, NE, and their family; and sister-in-law, Marilyn (Stromer) Fitzke, and her family.

Doris was preceded in death by their two precious children, Thomas Dean and Terri Lynn; parents, Karl & Alma (Gartner) Enninga; Larry’s parents, Paul and Mabel Stromer; and brother-in-law, Bob Fitzke. 

Doris chose cremation. A private memorial service in her honor will be at a date to be determined. Memorials will be designated by the family at a later date and can be sent to PO Box 907, Hastings, NE 68902-0907.
