Hastings resident, Dorothy Ruth Heydenberk, 100, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Memorial Services were previously held. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Lamar Heights Cemetery, Lamar, Missouri. Memorials may be given to the family. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Dorothy was born July 3, 1912 in Walnut, Illinois to John & Ruth Frances (Nesby) Deininger. She started Kindergarten at Drumright, Oklahoma and received her Bachelor's Degree in art and education at the College of the Pacific in Stockton, California. Dorothy also studied at Southwest College in Springfield, Missouri and Kansas State Teacher's College in Pittsburg, Kansas. She lived in eight states, including: Illinois, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Missouri, Montana, California, Nebraska, and Kentucky and visited Jos, Nigeria when her grandson was born there. Dorothy was a lifelong teacher and advocate of children, the elderly and the underprivileged. She enjoyed sports, crafts, and wrote close to four hundred poems.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lois Adelee; brothers, James Paul & John G. Jr.; and husband, Willis A. Heydenberk.
