Dorothy Lorraine

Hastings resident, Dorothy M. Lorraine, 82, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at BryanLGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Saturday, July 14, 2012; 10:00 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hastings YWCA, Hastings Museum, PEO Foundation or Hastings Public Library. There will be no visitation; book signing will be Thursday, July 12, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Friday, July 13, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Dorothy M. Lorraine was born May 8, 1930 to Thomas H. Detlefs and Emma (Hubert) Detlefs south of Minden, Nebraska. Dorothy graduated from Upland Public School in 1947. She attended Kearney State Teachers College for two years. Dorothy and Gale Lorraine were married in 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Upland, Nebraska. Dorothy completed her four year college degree in 1968 at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She taught a total of 23 years in Omaha, Bennington and ESU #9 at Hastings. The family was members of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Omaha where Dorothy taught Sunday School, served as Bible School Superintendent and sang in the choir. She was a leader for Jr. Campfire Girls in Omaha. When the family moved to Bennington, Dorothy served as Bible School Superintendent for St. John's Lutheran Church. As a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dorothy served LCW several years and was group leader. She was a board member for YWCA and sang with the Choralettes. She is a member of Hastings China Belles. She was also a member and served in several offices for Chapter FH - P.E.O.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.
