Hastings resident, Dorothy Belle Neal, 93, of 919 Washington, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be Thursday, February 19, 2009; 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18, 2009; 5:00 P.M.- 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Neal was born January 25, 1916 to Warren & Ida (McDonald) Hancock in Burt County, Nebraska near Tekamah. She graduated from Tekamah High School in 1933 and attended Dana College, University of Nebraska and Hastings College. She taught elementary school in rural schools of Burt County, Lyons, Nebraska, Alcott School, District 15 and a teacher's aide at Morton School in Hastings. She married Gordon Neal in 1941, in Little Rock, Arkansas while he was in the service. He preceded her in death in 1993.They moved to Hastings from Fairbury, Nebraska in 1950. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, past president of United Methodist Women & Phi Sigma Alpha, Friendly Dozen Extension Club and Asbury Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; brothers, Emory, Erwin, Lloyd, Raymond & Louis Hancock and sister, Etta Mason of Minden.
