Glenvil resident, Doyle D. Onken, 81, died Saturday, May 14, 2011; at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Wednesday, May 18, 2011; 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil, Nebraska with Pastor Jeff Glawe officiating. Burial with military rites will be at the Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Monday, May 16, 2011; 5 P.M .- 9 P.M., Tuesday, May 17, 2011; 9 A.M. - 9 P.M. with family present 7:30 P.M. until 9 P.M. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
Doyle D. Onken was born January 6, 1930 in Glenvil, Nebraska to John F. & Lena F. (Hinrichs) Onken. He graduated from Glenvil High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 - 1952. Doyle married Joyce L. Reid on December 4, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil. He worked at Farmland Industries east of Hastings for 30 years. Doyle was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was very active in church activities. He was also a member of American Legion Post #26 of Glenvil and was a former member of the Glenvil Cemetery Board. Doyle was an avid fan of Nebraska football and enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Doyle D. Onken was preceded in death by his parents, sister Karen Hinrichs and brother Melvin Onken.
