Dr. Byron Brown

Former area resident, Dr. Byron Lester Brown, 97, passed away January 25, 2015, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

A private memorial service was held in Little Rock on Saturday, January 31, and burial will be February 7, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, Nebraska, with Pastor Greg Lindenberger officiating. Those attending are asked to come to the Funeral Home for a brief service then process to Parkview Cemetery for the committal. Memorials may be given to Ecumenical Retirement Center - ERC Foundation, 3 Shepherds Cove, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205 or Hastings Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 597, Hastings, Nebraska 68902.

Byron was born February 26, 1917, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Myron Bentley & Clara Lafferty North Brown. He was a graduate of Hastings College and graduated from University of Nebraska Medical School in 1947. He married Yleen Phelan of Lincoln, Nebraska, on March 3, 1945. Byron interned at what is now Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas, and entered active duty as a Navy doctor aboard the APA Thomas Jefferson. In 1949 he began general medical practice in Superior, Nebraska, where he practiced for eight years. His orthopedic training was completed at the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1962. He maintained a private orthopedic practice in Fort Smith, Arkansas, until 1987. Byron and Yleen retired to live at the Good Shepherd Retirement Center in Little Rock ten years ago. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The family would like to thank Carissa Frost and the caregivers of Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Good Shepherd, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Brown; and sister, Wilma Nowka.
