Dr. Elmer Glenn

Dr. Elmer E. Glenn, 87, of The Kensington, 233 N. Hastings, #413, died Friday, January 21, 2005 at his home.

Services will be Monday, January 24, 2005; 10:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. William G. Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin, Nebraska.

Dr. Glenn was born March 1, 1917 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Wesley D. & Rose E. (Hansen) Glenn. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1933 and received his BS from University of Nebraska in 1939. In 1943, he received his MD from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, Omaha, Nebraska and did his internship at the University of Illinois Hospital, Chicago, Illinois and his residency at Hines Veterans Hospital, Hines, Illinois in general surgery. On May 31, 1944, he married Libby R. Blazkovec and she preceded him in death on August 20, 1984. He served in the United States Army during WWII from October 6, 1944 to January 6, 1947 and was made Captain of Medical Corps in 1945. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Adams County Medical Society, Nebraska State Medical Society, American Medical Society, American College of Surgeons and Diplomat of American Board of Surgery. He served as President of Staff of Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, was a member of the Board of Retired Senior Volunteer Program, The Bridge and board of directors at the Hastings Literacy Program. He was also a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Lion's Club and South Central Nebraska Czech Society. He served on ten medical missions to Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Romania and also served as a literacy instructor. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church choir and developed The Nebraska "All Citizens Welcome" Plan, a non-discrimination program in the 1960's.

Dr. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Libby a brother, Earl Glenn, a sister, Stella Schroeder.

Memorial may be given to First Presbyterian Church or Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital

VISITATION: Sat. 1-22-05; 11am-5pm
Sun. 1-23-05; 1pm-9pm
Mon. 1-24-05; 1 hr. prior to service at the church
