Hastings resident, Dr. James M. Johnson, 57, of 1318 Hewett, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at his home.
Memorial services will be Monday, April 22, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at French Memorial Chapel, Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. David McCarthy and Rev. Matt Nieman officiating.
Dr. James M. Johnson was born November 2, 1944 in Hood River, Oregon to Juell & Helen (Kirchoff) Johnson. He graduated from Lemmon High School, Lemmon, South Dakota and earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, South Dakota, a master of fine arts in percussion performance from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa and a doctor of musical arts degree in orchestra conducting from Iowa. He married Mischa Ash on July 19, 1980 and has lived in Hastings, Nebraska since 1980. He was a Professor of Music at Hastings College and Conductor of the Hastings Symphony. He was a member of ASTA (American String Teachers Association), MENC (Music Educators National Conference), Nebraska Music Educators Association and Nebraska String Teachers Association.
Dr. James M. Johnson was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Johnson.
