Robert was born February 23, 1930, to Dr. Forest Lynn and Kathleen (Quinton) Mastin in Chicago, IL. He was raised in Kearney, NE. On June 8, 2017, he celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary to the love of his life, Virginia Nye Mastin, whom he married on June 8, 1952, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Kearney, NE. Dr. Mastin earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (1951), and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Medicine, Omaha (1955). He completed a residency at Wayne County General Hospital in Detroit, MI (1956) and a residency in obstetrics at Offutt Air Force Base while serving as a captain in the United States Air Force (1963). Retiring in 2009 after 54 years of practicing medicine, he was one of three founding doctors of the Family Medical Center of Hastings (1963). He has also served on the medical staff of Mary Lanning Healthcare for over 50 years. Dr. Mastin began his career in the days when house calls were still common, delivered more than 6,000 thousand babies and as a family doctor often provided care for families over multiple generations. Dr. Mastin was an Eagle Scout, general aviation pilot, and lover of small planes and fast cars. A sports enthusiast, he was an avid tennis player and skier, a passionate Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and life-long, season ticket holder. Mastering the game of golf was a life-long pursuit, and he was a founding member of Lochland Country Club, where he built his family home in 1962.
