Dr. Scott McCormick, Jr

Hastings resident, Dr. Scott McCormick, Jr., 86, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, July 8, 2015; 3:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Shelbourn officiating. Private burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska at a later date. Memorials may be given to Dr. Scott McCormick, Jr. Memorial Fund.

Scott was born June 4, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois to Scott Sr. and Emma McCormick. He was a 1953 graduate of Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia followed by Masters and Doctorate degrees at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Scott was a Professor of Religion and Chair of the Religion and Philosophy Department at Hastings College, 1970-1992. He was an author, writing two books on the life of Jesus. He was a guest preacher at many churches throughout central Nebraska, and an active member of both the Society of Biblical Literature and The Presbytery of Central Nebraska.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents and wife Mary Helen.
