Hastings resident, Duane E. Schroeder, 76, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Glenvil, with Rev. Renee Johnson officiating. Burial with military rites at St. Paul Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery. Visitation Saturday, December 13, 2008; 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2008; 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with family present from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home & Monday, December 15, 2008, 1 hr. prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to St .Paul Lutheran Church Glenvil.
Duane was born November 1, 1932 to Louis & Laura (Paneitz) Schroeder of Polk, Nebraska. The family moved to Deshler at the age of 2 and moved to Hastings in 1942. Duane received his education at Zion Lutheran School through 8th and graduated in 1951 from Hastings Senior High. He was drafted into the United States Army on January 1953 and was an infantry truck driver transporting troops to the front line serving his country in Korea for seventeen months. Duane returned from the service and went to work at Debus Bakery. He worked at Hastings Industries and Farmland Industries, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Glenvil and served on the St. Paul council for 6 years. He also was a member of DAV of Hastings and Glenvil American Legion. On June 2nd, 1962, he married Mary A. Valentin Anders at St. Paul Lutheran Church Glenvil and immediately became 'dad' to La Donna, Bruce and Brian. Duane enjoyed fishing and spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
Duane is survived by his wife Mary and his children La Donna and Roger Rader, Bruce and Jeanie Anders, Brian and Marla Anders and his special grandchildren Kimberly and Seth Krueger of Hastings, Krystal and Timothy Hrbek of Omaha, Megan Anders of Lincoln, Brent Anders of Dodge Center, MN, Charles Anders of Houston, TX, Nicholas Anders of Hastings, Alyssia Anders of Hawaii. His special pride great grandchildren Gabrelle and Grady Krueger of Hastings, Kyria Anders of MN and Mattison, Jonah, Kason, Brittney and Timmy Hrbek of Omaha. Also survived by his brother Dale and wife Leola Schroeder, sister in law Burdette Konzak of Harvard, brother in law Ivan and wife Eileen Valentin of Glenvil and several nieces and nephews.
