E. Hulsker

Hastings resident, E. Fay Hulsker, 101, of The Kensington, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at The Kensington.

Services were Monday, January 3, 2005; 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Dr. William G. Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, all in Hastings, Nebraska.

Mr. Hulsker was born January 24, 1903 to William & Mattie (Goding) Hulsker in Roseland, Nebraska. As a young child, he lived on a farm in Pauline, Nebraska. The family moved to Hastings, Nebraska so he and his sister could attend Hastings High School. He graduated from Hastings High School. He attended Hastings College and was on the basketball team and track team. As a track team member, he held conference and school records in the 220 and broad jump. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Pharmacy School in 1928 and was a member of the ATO fraternity. After graduation, he worked at various pharmacies thorough out the state.
He moved back to Hastings, Nebraska and worked at Don Brooke Drug. In 1937, on a train ride to Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Indiana, he met his bride to be, Thyra A. Moore. On September 7, 1937 they married and she preceded him in death on, March 10, 2002.
In 1948, he bought Hastings Drug and in future years, opened pharmacies in Foote Clinic and Weber Clinic. Later he combined them into the nations first drive-in drug store, Fay's Drive-In Drug Store. He sold his business in 1978 to Keith Moul and moved to Sun City, Arizona, moving back to Hastings, Nebraska in February of 2004. He was a charter member of DeMolay, Tehema Temple, serving on the Divan, Lochland Country Club, Elks, Southern Hills Country Club, in Hastings and Union Hills Country Club in Sun City, Arizona. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Shrine, Royal Order of the Jester's, Lodge #50 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite all of Hastings, Nebraska. He was a former member of Lions, Kiwanis, Eagle's, Knight of Pythias and other fraternal organizations. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations. He enjoyed cards, including bridge. He was an avid Nebraska Husker Football fan and traveled to many of the away games. Due to the birth of his second son in 1940, he was not able to attend the Rose Bowl that year.

Mr. Hulsker was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Thyra A. Hulsker, sister, Irene Parks.
