Hastings resident, Edith Brookhart, 85, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Friday, August 23, 2013; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 24, 2013; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to St. Michael's Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday, August 22, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., Friday, August 23, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edith was born May 5, 1928 in Levallois-Perret, France to Ferdinand LaFargue of France & Edith Boyne of Scotland. She graduated from High School and Industrial Arts school in Paris where she had a job painting scarves. During World War II she met Darrel Brookhart and came to Hastings in 1947 as a war bride. Darrel preceded her in death in 1986. A year later she met Laurence Sowers who was her companion until her death. Edith worked at Hastings Junior High School lunchroom as the ice cream lady for many years. She was an artist and loved to paint. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings and Grand Island Sketch Clubs, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrel Q. Brookhart; brother, Roger LaFargue.
