Edith Petersen

Hastings resident Edith Elizabeth “Ede” Petersen, age 85, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, at Providence Place in Hastings, NE.

A Celebration of Eternal Life service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar and Pastor Josh Davis officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church or in Edith’s honor for a nursing scholarship. There will be no viewing, visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.

Ede was born January 28, 1933, to Olga Rath and Adolph Roemmich on a farm near Sutton, NE. She graduated from Sutton High School in 1950 and attended Mary Lanning School of Nursing, graduating in 1953. She married Duane L. Petersen at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE on June 5, 1954.

Ede worked as a Registered Nurse at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and the offices of Dr. O.A. Kostal and Hastings Internal Medicine for a total of 46 years. Ede took pride and felt it to be an honor, to be a Registered Nurse. After retiring she continued her nursing career by volunteering her services at the Health Fair, taking part in Faith’s Wellness team, and as a Mary Lanning Auxiliary volunteer.

Besides nursing, Ede cherished her family! She took great delight in children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them as she taught them many life skills. Her church family and her love for Jesus was extremely important to her. She was active in Bible study, taught Sunday School, was a member of the prayer chain, served on the Church Council, and in later years helped volunteer in a variety of different capacities at Faith Lutheran. Ede also enjoyed traveling, camping, antiques, genealogy, bird watching, bowling, the 55 Plus Club, being a Girl Scout leader in her younger years, and playing bridge.

Ede was preceded in death by her husband; parents; parents-in-law, Edna and Harry Petersen; brother, Allan Roemmich; sisters, Agnes Frakes and Velma Zimbelman; and brothers-in-law, Ray Frakes, Gilbert Zimbelman, and Bradley Petersen.
