Hastings resident, Edna E. Doering, 88, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010 at The Kensington, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, June 4, 2010; 11:00 A.M. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Hastings with Rev. Steven Peeler officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 2, 2010; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Thursday, June 3, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Friday, June 4, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

Edna E. (Kolling) Doering was born April 11, 1922 on a farm southeast of Ruskin, Nebraska in Nuckolls County to Otto & Dena (Braun) Kolling. Edna Ettie Sophia was baptized April 30, 1922 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, northwest of Deshler, Nebraska by Pastor E. Lahmann. She was then confirmed June 7, 1936 in the same church by Pastor G.A. Spring. Her confirmation verse was John 3:16-23. She attended her first eight grades of school at Dist. 29 rural school south of Ruskin and graduated from Ruskin High School in 1940. She was employed by the Deshler Broom Factory and cared for her two ill parents. She was united in marriage to Oscar O. Doering, February 12, 1956, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Deshler, Nebraska. They resided on a farm north of Davenport. Oscar and Edna were blessed with one daughter, Cathy Sue. They became members of Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport. Edna joined the Lutheran church women group, Altar Guild, and enjoyed helping with Bible School and Sunday School. In 1970, Edna and Oscar moved to a farm by Edgar, Nebraska and farmed there for two years. In 1973, they moved to Hastings. There they joined Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she became a member of the WELCA-Martha Circle and Altar Guild. She enjoyed making quilts and projects for Lutheran World Relief. She worked 10 years at Abbott's Dairy and 6 years at Hastings Irrigation. She enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, working in her flower gardens, sewing, and cooking. She also enjoyed volunteering at the hospital where she was a member of the hospital auxiliary and also volunteered for the Red Cross. She was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. In 2006, Edna moved to The Kensington Assisted Living.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar O. Doering; two brothers, Elmer Kolling and Ed Kolling; and a nephew, Jack Kolling.
