Edna Virginia Jobman, the daughter of Oscar and Hattie (Plautz) Grothen, was born in Hastings, Nebraska on August 10, 1924. Edna attended school at District 33 north of Hastings through the 8th grade. She graduated from Hastings High School. She then attended Hastings College and graduated with a double major in Music and English. She began her teaching career in 1946 at Doniphan teaching K-12 music and English. She then went to Spencer Park Elementary in Hastings for 3 years to teach music. After that, she began a new assignment at Hastings Jr. High teaching music. Edna often joked that her claim to fame was that she had Tom Osborne as a student in her Junior High Choir.
On June 19, 1955 Edna was united in marriage to Richard Jobman. They lived in Norfolk where Richard was pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church until they retired in 1978. While in Norfolk, Edna was a very active partner with Richard in ministry. She was a Sunday School Teacher, directed the Junior and Adult choirs, and assumed the role of teaching confirmation when Richard had surgery and had to take some time off.
After Richard retired from full-time ministry, Edna and Richard moved to Hastings. Edna got a job at Watson Elementary School as a para-professional in the Library and Study Center. She was also active in church life at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. She was a member of WELCA and served on the Foundation Board. She was involved in the Stephen Ministry and also enjoyed sewing quilts with the other women of the church. Another volunteer activity Edna enjoyed was her involvement with the Literacy Program, teaching English as a second language.
Richard passed away in December 2006. Edna moved to East Park Villa in Aurora in 2010 and to Memorial Community Care in Aurora in 2013.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Mark & Laura Jobman of Aurora, NE and Steven Jobman & partner, Rick Best of Davenport, IA; two granddaughters & their families, Sarah & Nathan Geiken and Ella of Gretna, NE and Amy & Michael Carlin and Lily of Bellevue, NE; one brother, Paul & Jeanette Grothen of Hastings, NE; and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl & Alice Grothen, Raymond & Helen Grothen, and Harold & Gertrude Grothen.
Edna loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She did a lot of sewing for her granddaughters when they were little. Sarah and Amy have many dresses that Grandma Edna made for them that they will cherish. Edna loved music and especially enjoyed her granddaughter's piano recitals and Steven's church choir programs.
