Edsel Glass

Hastings resident, Edsel "Ed" W. Glass, 96, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.

A Requiem Eucharist will be Tuesday, March 1, 2011; 11:00 A.M. at Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Hastings with The Rev. Catherine F. Scott officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Sunday, February 27, 2011; 2:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.; and a book signing will be Monday, February 28, 2011; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Saint Mark's Episcopal Church or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Mr. Glass was born January 2, 1915 in Grand Island, Nebraska to John B. & Carrie M. (Anderson) Glass. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1932 and attended Hastings College and the University of Nebraska where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. On October 15, 1938 he married Dorothy E. McPherson and they had two children, John B. and Mary Lou. Dorothy preceded him in death on May 8, 1961. On December 24, 1964 he married Georgia A. Needham and she preceded him in death on March 23, 1996. Mr. Glass was one of the owners and a Vice President of Western Land Roller, serving on its Board of Directors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent many hours at the family cabin located on the Platte River near Wood River. Edsel had many stories to share relating to his travels with Western Land Roller, fishing trips to Alaska and hunting trips. He and his family had many occasions to share all of his stories. He was a member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church, Meadow Brook Golf Club, Lochland Country Club, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Masonic Lodge 50, Hastings Scottish Rite Valley, Tehama Shriners, and was an avid trap shooter. He was a charter member of the Grand Hotel Elk Club in Rifle, Colorado.

Edsel was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; wife, Georgia; and brother and sister-in-law, Don & Phyllis Glass.
