Hastings, Nebraska resident, Edward "Andy" Carl Anderson, 96, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, February 21, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be Friday, February 21, 2014; 1:30 P.M. with military rites in Geneva Cemetery, Geneva, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, February 20, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 4:00 P.M. - 5:30 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Miami, Oklahoma, The Homestead, or Mary Lanning Hospice.

Andy was born in Beattie, Kansas, a town in Northern Kansas to Eda (Nelson) & Frank V. Anderson on May 21, 1917. When he was ten months old the family moved to Geneva, Nebraska and he grew up there graduating from high school in the year of 1935. He farmed with his dad for four years before joining the Armed Forces in 1942. He served in the Southwest Pacific for three years. He served in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. He was on his way to Japan when the war ended. He got out of the service in 1945. He married Margaret Alberta Heinz on June 23, 1946 in Sutton, Nebraska at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. They adopted a son, Larry, at the age of four. They bought their first of eight motels in Hastings, Nebraska in 1958. They bought and sold several motels in numerous states. They purchased a home in Miami, Oklahoma in 1969. In later years, Andy took courses at NEO A&M in air conditioning and refrigeration, real estate and also investments. He then worked for Ray Richardson and Gil Grady selling and buying motels. After retiring from the motel business they fished on Grand Lake for several years until ill health ended it and then had to give up their home and move to Leisure Living in 2010. In October 2013 he moved back to Hastings, Nebraska where they began their marriage. He was a devout member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Miami, Oklahoma serving as a trustee.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother who was stillborn, and a sister who passed away at two months.
