Hastings resident, Edward E. "Ed" Cassel, 64, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Monday, August 11, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Sunday, August 10, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with family present from 5:00-7:00 P.M., and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
Ed was born July 8, 1950 in Salina, Kansas to Emerson E. & Leahdele (Hoyt) Cassel. He graduated from Hastings High School and received his degree in automotive technology and received a second degree in computer technology/data processing. Ed married Mary (Brouillette) Brannigan; they later divorced. He served in the U.S. Army from January 3, 1971 until September 15, 1972. Ed worked in the maintenance office at Central Community College and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Four Rivers Sportsman Club, and National Rifle Association.
Ed was preceded in death by his step-son, Sean P. Brannigan; and two sisters, Jeanine Cassel and Carol Cauley; mother: Leahdele Cassel.
