Hastings resident, Eilert Harold Janssen, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Memorial service will be Monday, July 16, 2012; 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil, with Pastor Renee Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, July 15, 2012; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Harold was born November 3, 1923 in Adams County, Nebraska to Eilert & Anna (Manske) Janssen. He attended District #40 school and was confirmed at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings on April 10, 1936. He was a lifelong area farmer. Harold married Ruth Merkel on May 2, 1956 at Hanover Presbyterian Church, near Glenvil. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church west of Glenvil, Church Council, and served on the Building Committee as treasurer.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herman and Richard Janssen; and four sisters, Fannie Cornelius, Helen Bohlen, Frieda Saaijenga, and Margie George.
