Eldon Stock

Hastings resident, Eldon E. Stock, 85, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial Services will be Friday, January 18, 2013; 10:30 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Book signing will be Thursday, January 17, 2013; 9:00 A.M - 5:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace United Methodist Church.

Eldon was born January 28, 1927 in Murdock, Nebraska to William & Minnie (Schlueter) Stock. He graduated from Murdock High and served with the U.S. Navy from March 16, 1945 until July 25, 1946. After first meeting at church camp, Eldon married Helen Runge on June 6, 1948. Helen preceded him in death on September 26, 2011. They farmed with his family in Murdock until 1952, when they moved to Hastings where he worked as a mailman for the United States Postal Service until retiring in 1987. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Christian Builders Sunday School class since 1953. He was also a member of the Letter Carriers Association, NARFE, and past board member of Southern Hills Golf Course. As a sports enthusiast, Eldon played softball in his younger years, coached his sons' Little League baseball teams, and became an avid golfer in retirement. He and Helen enjoyed following the Big Red and were season ticketholders for many years. He also never lost hope for the Cubs' next season.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Mae Stock; one sister, Lila Cole; brothers, Roy Stock, Marion Stock, and Willard Stock; and one grandson, Brent Stock.
