Eleanor Barrows

Hansen resident Eleanor M. (Husman) Barrows, 91, died Saturday, Feb.14, 2004, at Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Services are 11:30 a.m Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. William G. Nottage-Tacey officiating. Private family burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is 1-9p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Mrs. Barrows was born Jan. 21, 1913 to Ernest H. and Florence (Sherman) Husman in Lebanon. She attended grade schools in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Los Angeles, and received her bachelor's degree from Hastings College in 1939. She taught elementary school in Pauline and Norfolk for nine years. In 1943, she married Delbert E. Barrows. They lived on a farm near Hansen. She later returned to teaching for nine more years in Hastings and Grand Island. She and her husband lived on their farm for 60 years.
She was active in the Hansen Presbyterian Church until it closed. She then joined Hastings First Presbyterian Church. She served as deacon and elder and taught Sunday school for 70 years. She also was a member of the Adams County YWCA board, Hastings College alumni board and Head Start Policy Council.
Survivors are her husband; four sons, David of Irvine, Calif., Daniel of Norfolk, John of Los Angeles and Stephen of Wakefield, Mass; on daughter, Glenice Bosley-Risheill of Fort collins, Colo; three grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sister and an infant grandchild.
Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church in Hastings.
