Mrs. Konen was born February 15, 1915 in Adams County, near Assumption, Nebraska to Albert & Katharine (David) Hoffman on their farm. She attended Assumption School and completed beautician training at Bonnell Beauty Academy in Hastings, Nebraska. She worked as a beautician in Ogallala, Nebraska until her marriage to George Konen on September 22, 1936 in Assumption. The couple lived in several western Nebraska towns, while Mr. Konen worked as a surveyor. They returned to Adams county in 1942 where they farmed until retiring to Hastings in 1973. Mrs. Konen and her husband worked as Foster Grandparents at Pooh Corner and the Shelter for Abused Children in Hastings for several years after their retirement. More recently, they have lived at Grandview Manor, Campbell, Nebraska and Heritage Care Center, Red Cloud, Nebraska. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Konen was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, James Albert, seven brothers, Ralph, Engelbert, Cyril, Arthur, Francis, Anthony, Bert Hoffman, one sister, Marian Uhl and a great grandson, Derek Parr.

Eleanor and her husband, George, would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on September 22. Their long relationship has given us all a beautiful example of true fidelity and love. Her loving concern for her husband and all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be greatly missed, but will live on in our hearts.
