Hastings resident, Elizabeth D. Behrens, 71, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014 at her home.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, July 12, 2014; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Scattering of her ashes will be at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hastings College Behrens Mathematics Scholarship or First Presbyterian Church.

Elizabeth was born June 3, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri to Nelson R. & Lydia (Thorton) Darragh. She graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis, Missouri; she received a Bachelor's Degree from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, Master of Science Degree in Mathematics from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Mathematics from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, and Master of Business Administration Degree from University of Missouri in St. Louis, Missouri. Elizabeth married Dale W. Behrens on December 28, 1968 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a college professor at Hastings College, first teaching business, economics and accounting. She then chaired the Mathematics and Computer Science Department while teaching until her retirement in 2009. She enjoyed, over many years, keeping the books for volleyball and men's/women's basketball and was a member of the College's Athletic Hall of Fame for her service given to the athletic program. She received Teacher of the Year and Advisor of the Year Awards. She and her husband were Fulbright Instructors for one year in MalaA�i, Africa. Two sabbaticals were spent, one on a mission trip in MalaA�i, Africa and one teaching at College of Bahamas in Nassau, Bahamas. Elizabeth was a member of First Presbyterian Church where her involvement included financial secretary and treasurer, Session, Trustees, choir member and Stephen Ministries leader.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Nelson Darragh, Jr.
