Hastings resident, Ellie Rose Scherbarth, 6, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Children's Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska after a courageous year long battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, February 25, 2010; 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Ellie was born August 22, 2003 in Hastings, Nebraska to Wes Scherbarth & Annie Sheppard. Ellie attended Hawthorne Elementary School, First United Methodist Church and belonged to Girl Scout Troop #419. She enjoyed the outdoors including deer hunting, fishing and camping. When not able to enjoy these things, dirt track racing was always big on her list. She loved Kam Raceway as well as Mid Nebraska in Doniphan. She was a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Jeff Gordon on the Nascar circuit. When all else failed she did arts and crafts and loved making messes in the kitchen she called cooking. Ellie was definitely a girly-girl also known as "Miss Ellie" and more commonly "Princess Sassafras". Many lifetime friendships were made this last year due to Ellie's illness. Ellie will be missed greatly by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.

The benefit for Ellie planned for Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 11:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. will go on as scheduled at the Hastings Auditorium.
