Elmer Riter

September 30, 1921 — February 19, 2013

Former Hastings resident, Elmer O. Riter, 91, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Grand Island Veterans Home, Grand Island, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, February 22, 2013; 3:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Dustin Bower officiating. Burial with military rites will be Saturday, February 23, 2013; 11:00 A.M. CST in Bartley Cemetery, Bartley, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, February 22, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date or Crane Meadows Nature Center, Alda, Nebraska.

Elmer was born September 30, 1921 in Garden County, Nebraska to Charles H. & Vienna E. (Neff) Riter. He graduated from Gem State Academy in Idaho in 1942 and attended Walla Walla College in Washington. Elmer served with the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945. He married Rita Teter on June 14, 1953; she preceded him in death on October 17, 2003. Elmer farmed in Garden County area. He was a Chaplain for the V.F.W. and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita; four sisters; and three brothers.
