December 3, 2015 was the day our Mama, Eloris Cash, raised her new angel wings and freed herself from the tethers of her life here on earth. She slipped away quietly early in the morning as we all slept, and joined many in Heaven who had passed before her. Greeting her was her mother, Hazel Kuhn; father and step mother, Frank and Irene Dunbar; husband Charles Cash, Sr.
Mom had a fabulous wardrobe and with 5 daughters and 2 sons shopping for her how could it be any other way? Right to the end of her 92 years of life she wore her little size 4 slacks and blue jeans fitted and complimented by her ever- present tailored jackets and a belt. Anyone who knew her understood that she did not leave the house without her hair and makeup done. Try as it might, even Alzheimer's disease could not rob her of her sense of style and dignity.
She was an only child, a preemie weighing less than four pounds, born at home and kept warm in a wooden box on the open door of their wood stove. They were miles from any sizable towns in rural Nebraska but were blessed with her strong spirit to live. We witnessed this mighty force again recently as she prepared for her journey into our memories. What a warrior she proved to be!
Mom worked at the OK Café as a waitress for many years, eventually managing the business with our dad Charlie closing the café at night for her after he had worked at the Union Pacific freight office all day. They steered the original restaurant with its famous cinnamon rolls and fried chicken through its "hay day" years of catering to the local railroaders, families and college students. She later worked in food service at Hastings Regional Center until her retirement.
Left in her wake are 7 children: Sons Gary Cash, Fort Collins, CO and Charles Cash, Jr., Beatrice, NE; Daughters Charlene Woolsey (Dick) of Pueblo, CO; Patti Cash-Johnson, Hastings; Merry Perry (Bill) Windsor, CO; Betty Sumpter, Hastings; Karen Anderson (Roger)Blue Hill, NE. Remaining generations include 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one and a half great-great grandchildren.
