Elsie Pavelka

Elsie Ella Pavelka, 73, of 5645 N. Baltimore, Hastings, Nebraska, died Thursday, January 22, 2004 at her home.

Services will be Monday, January 26, 2004: 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil, Nebraska with Revs. Les & Bonnie Larsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, west of Glenvil, Nebraska.

Mrs. Pavelka was born February 13, 1930 on a farm south of Hastings, Nebraska to Henry D. & Helena O. (Theesen) Stamer. She was baptized on March 23, 1930 and confirmed on April 2, 1944, both from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil, Nebraska. She attended rural school District #60 and graduated from Hastings High School in 1947. She married Bernard F. Pavelka on January 15, 1948 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year. She was a homemaker and business owner. Bernard & Elsie lived in Hastings until 1958 when they moved to Geneva, Nebraska, where they owned and operated Bernie's Place for 4 ½ years. They moved back to Hastings where they founded and operated the Barrel Bar from 1963 to 1975. They owned & operated Bernardos from 1969 to 1973 and founded and operated The Garden from 1973 to 1975 and she was co-owner of Bernard Pavelka Trucking, Inc. until 1992. Elsie loved to dance, cook, sing, read, write and she loved photography. She was always taking pictures and she was a great believer in schedules and planning events, usually a year in advance. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, past president of WELCA of Glenvil, Nebraska. She was a past Sunday school teacher. She also belonged to the BPO Does #112, VFW Auxiliary 7102 in Geneva, Nebraska, Adams County Historical Society, Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial Foundation, Marie Sandos Heritage Society, Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History and YWCA Senior Fellowship Club.

Mrs. Pavelka was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, infant brother and one granddaughter, Annie Sibert.
