Erma Kirchen

Former Hastings resident, Erma (Kimminau) Kirchen, 94 of Good Samaritan Society, Wood River, Nebraska died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Wood River.

Rosary will be Tuesday, November 17, 2009; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 18, 2009; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 17, 2009; 5 P.M. - 9 P.M. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Erma Kirchen was born January 25, 1915 to John & Ludmila (Brychta) Drapal at Lawrence, Nebraska. She married Philip Kimminau on November 15, 1938 at Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese, Nebraska. They farmed and later moved to Harvard and owned and operated Phil & Erma's Tavern. After Philip died on February 6, 1964, Erma continued to manage the tavern until she retired and moved to Hastings. She married Ben Kirchen on September 14, 1990, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on July 8, 2005. Erma was a wonderful cook and loved to dance. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Erma Kirchen was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Philip Kimminau and Ben Kirchen, daughter, Mary Ann Hoins, one brother and two sisters.
