Eunice Marie (Hoesch) O'Donnell

Eunice Marie (Hoesch) O'Donnell, 99, died Friday, September 6, 2024, at Harvard Rest Haven. She was previously a resident of rural Trumbull, NE.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 16, at Trumbull United Methodist Church in Trumbull with Pastor Dave Mendyk officiating. The burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 16, at Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. with the family present 5-7 p.m. Sunday, September 15, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation for nursing scholarships or Trumbull Community Center. Eunice was born on May 21, 1925, near Huntley, NE, to Paul and Amelia (Homberg) Hoesch. In 1942, she graduated from Huntley High School. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Hastings College and nursing degree from Mary Lanning School of Nursing in 1947. She was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. 

On August 10, 1948, she married Paul O’Donnell at Calvary Evangelical Church in Lincoln. After living in Hastings for a year, they moved to a farm north of Trumbull in 1949. They had two children: Charles “Chuck” and Nancy. 

Paul and Eunice were married for 60 years, during which they enjoyed attending musical events and traveling. After Paul’s death in 2008, she remained on the farm until 2022. 

Professionally, Eunice worked for Dr. McMillian in Hastings before starting a family. She taught nursing fundamentals at Mary Lanning School of Nursing from 1968 to 1975. For many years, she took on many special nursing cases in the community, helping those in need. 

Eunice was active in the Scoville Precinct Extension Club and the United Methodist Women of the Trumbull United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the church and sang in the choir. She volunteered with the Hastings Literacy Council. 

Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, reading, caring for her cats, and watching Husker football and volleyball. 

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Myron Hoesch; and her husband. 

Her survivors include: son, Chuck (Pat) O’Donnell of Trumbull, NE; daughter, Nancy (Stephen) Swanson of New Holland, PA; granddaughter, Alicia O’Donnell of Trumbull, NE; grandson, Phil (Jill) O’Donnell of Lincoln, NE; and great-granddaughters, Isabelle and Lillian O’Donnell of Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as dear friends and neighbors.
