Evelyn Samuelson

Trumbull resident, Evelyn Marie Samuelson, 103, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, June 21, 2014; 11:00 A.M. at Trumbull United Methodist Church, Trumbull with Pastor Travis King and Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Funeral Home, with the family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. If you are unable to attend the services, the family of Evelyn cordially invites you to celebrate her life at a luncheon which will immediately follow the committal at the Trumbull Community Center at 12:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trumbull Community Center or to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Evelyn was born April 27, 1911 in southwest Hamilton County, Nebraska to George and Agnes (Livingston) Hawthorne. She graduated from Giltner High School in 1928 and attended Kearney Normal School in Kearney, Nebraska. On August 3, 1930 she married Ivor Samuelson. He preceded her in death on December 3, 1980. Evelyn was a homemaker, taught school for a year and worked at Samuelson Lumber Company. She was a member of Trumbull United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Bible School and taught Sunday School for many years. Evelyn was a Pink Lady and volunteer in the snack shop at Mary Lanning Healthcare. Evelyn was a member of the 4-C Club and was a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed bowling, loved to travel, going to the horse races and playing cards in numerous card clubs.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ivor; daughter, Bonnie Reed; granddaughter, Valerie Vinsant; and siblings, Ralph Hawthorne, Gladys Hawthorne, Clarence Hawthorne, Helen Hart, Betty Kuzma and Bob Hawthorne.
