Hastings resident, Faith M. Nelson, 84, of 305 W. 9th Street, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene with Rev. David L. Speicher officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation hours are Friday, November 21, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday, November 23, 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and Monday, November 24 , one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene.
Mrs. Nelson was born June 30, 1924 in Hastings, Nebraska to Ervan Wade and Margaret Eldora (Booth) Morrison. In high school she excelled in academics and was active in debate, music, and numerous clubs. She was elected and served as Vice President of the Senior Class of 1942 at Hastings High School. Following high school she worked at Cushing Company wholesale grocers and J.M. McDonald department store.
On October 28, 1942 she married Marvin E. Nelson in Hastings. During her husband's military service in WWII, Mrs. Nelson worked at General Motors in Detroit, Michigan, and at Chicago Saw Works in Chicago, Illinois. Following the war she pursued private vocal training under Dr. Hayes Fuhr, Professor of Music at Hastings College, and worked for her husband as an office assistant at Nelson Electric Company until the birth of their second child.
Faith was a beloved homemaker and an active member of Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene and the Hastings Christian Women's Club. Due to her outstanding vocal talent she was a frequent soloist at her church and also at many weddings and funerals throughout the Hastings area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Cecile Rosenberg, and brother, Rev. C. William Morrison.
Faith is survived by her husband , Marvin, of Hastings, and three children, Dr. Randall Nelson and wife Carolyn of San Jose, California, Stephanie Allen and husband T.R. of Olathe, Kansas, and Brad Nelson and wife Paula of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by one sister, Wauneta Steely of Hastings, two granddaughters, Jessi Davis and husband Joe of Gardner, Kansas, and Nicole Nelson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two great grandchildren , Grace and Gage Davis, nephews Stephen Steely and Dr. John Steely (both formerly of Hastings), and numerous nieces and nephews.
