Hastings resident, Father Paul Sheehy, 78, of 1011 West 11th Street, a retired priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska
A vigil service will be celebrated Friday, August 18, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, Nebraska with Bishop Fabian W. Bruskewitz and priests of the Diocese of Lincoln officiating. Burial will be in Highland St. Patrick's Cemetery in rural Hastings, Nebraska.
Visitation is Thursday, August 17, 2006 from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings, NE : Friday, August 18, 2006 from 9 am - 5 pm at Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings, NE and Saturday, August 19, 2006 1 hour prior to service at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, NE.

Father Sheehy was born July 8, 1928 to Thomas & Ella (Gallaher) Sheehy at Hastings, Nebraska. He graduated from St. Cecilia High School in Hastings, Nebraska in 1946. After seminary studies in St. Louis, Missouri and St. Paul, Minnesota, Father Sheehy was ordained a Catholic priest on May 27, 1954 in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, Nebraska. He served parishes in Brainard, Lincoln, Greenwood, Bellwood, Plattsmouth, Fairbury, Ulysses and Hebron. In addition, Father Sheehy served as principal of Pius X High School in Lincoln and chair of the religion department of Aquinas Catholic High School in David City. He also served as dean of the Plattsmouth, Fairbury and Hebron deaneries in the Diocese of Lincoln. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Father Sheehy received the S.T.C. Father Sheehy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Monsignor Robert Sheehy, William Sheehy, Phillip Sheehy, Thomas Sheehy, Leo Sheehy, Richard Sheehy and Richard's twin brother and sisters, Margaret Phelan & Catherine Johnston.
