Fern Bye

Hastings resident, Fern Jeanette Bye, 92, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, October 16, 2009; 10:00 A.M. at Trumbull United Methodist Church, Trumbull with Rev. Dr. Lee Wigert officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 14, 2009; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M., Thursday, October 15, 2009; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:00P.M.- 8:00P.M. at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home, and 1 hour prior to service Friday at Trumbull United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given to the Fern J. Bye Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 35, Giltner, NE 68841.

Fern was born March 27, 1917 in Trumbull, Nebraska to William & Rena (Livgren) Samuelson. She graduated from Trumbull High School in 1934, and then attended Hastings College and Lincoln University, now known as University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She married Ralph E. Bye on December 27, 1939 at Trumbull, Nebraska, he preceded her in death on May 23, 1994. She taught country school four miles east of Trumbull and one year in a school three miles west of Giltner. She lived her entire life in Trumbull until she moved to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. She was a homemaker and a member of the Trumbull United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, 4-C Club, and was a former Pink Lady for the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Ivor Samuelson, sisters Evelyn Gosserd and Velda Turner, and son-in-law Phil Kreutz.
