Fern Penner

Former Hastings resident, Fern Rosalie Penner, 86, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Courtyard Terrace Assisted Living, Hebron, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, October 31, 2009, 10:00 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, October 29, 2009; 5 P.M. - 9 P.M. Friday, October 30, 2009; 9 A.M. - 9 P.M. with family present 4 P.M. - 7 P.M. and one hour prior to service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Courtyard Terrace Assisted Living, Hebron, Nebraska.

Fern was born October 20, 1923 on a farm near Sutton, Nebraska to James & Josephine (Anderson) Nelson. She graduated from Sutton High School in 1940. She married Ernest Victor Penner on April 21, 1942 in Aurora, Nebraska, and he preceded her in death on January 27, 1979. She worked at J. M. McDonalds offices as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and Eagle's Auxiliary.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Victor Penner; 1 brother, Curtis Nelson, 6 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law, 2 sons-in-law Larry Lange and Jim Kopisch and great-granddaughter Jenna Dorene Kelly.
