Former Hastings resident, Florence Adeliae Black, 100, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015 at Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, Nebraska, surrounded with staff of Harvard Rest Haven who had become her "family".
Memorial Service will be Monday, March 9, 2015; 1:30 P.M. at Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard with Chaplain Aaron Phillips officiating. All persons who knew Florence are invited to attend. Private burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, Nebraska.
Florence was born January 5, 1915 in Bladen, Nebraska to Earnest E. & Mary L. (Zastrow) Grubb. She was baptized into the Methodist faith on April 21, 1946. Florence graduated from Bladen High School in 1932. She married Leonard Black on July 21, 1940 in Hastings; he preceded her in death in 1985. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. Florence's mother came from Germany and Florence has a display at the Webster County Museum in Red Cloud showing some items that came with her mother from Germany. This includes a special rocking chair that was used to rock all grandchildren born into the Grubb/Zastrow family.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Black; parents; daughters, Mary Lou Black and Shirley Tjaden; and son-in-law, John Tjaden.
