Florence Owens

Harvard resident, Florence R. Owens, 84, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Wednesday, December 10, 2014; 2:00 P.M. at United Church of Christ, Harvard with Pastor Dave Johnson and Rev. Stan Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Harvard Cemetery, Harvard. Visitation will be Monday, December 8, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home, Hastings, Tuesday, December 9, 2014; 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present at United Church of Christ, Harvard, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Florence was born September 5, 1930 in Twin Brooks, South Dakota to Ray & Charlotte (Bell) Anderson. In the early 1940's, Florence moved to the Inland and Harvard area with her family. After her marriage to Jessie F. Owens on May 14, 1950, they moved to Mississippi and later back to Harvard. Jesse preceded her in death on January 5, 2002. For many years, she cooked for the nursing home and school in Harvard. She loved helping her family and friends and feeding them too. She was a grandma to everyone! Florence was very active in her church and in the community. She was a member of the United Church of Christ and the VFW Auxiliary in Harvard. She loved going to garage sales and finding a bargain, she also enjoyed country music.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jessie; son, Larry "Red" Owens; grandson, Curtis Owens; great-granddaughter, Hailey Sanford; 5 brothers; and 2 sisters.
