Frances was born June 26, 1933 in Lawrence, Nebraska to Edward & Frances (Reining) Kathman. She attended St. Stephen School in Lawrence until eighth grade, and then was needed at home to help on the farm. She was a loving daughter. She helped her dad on the farm; he would tell her she was a good worker. She also helped her mother. She had fond memories of her childhood. She worked at Metz Bakery until she got married. She met Donald Klein at a dance and it was love at first site. She married Don on November 21, 1959 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. They lived on the farm outside of Roseland, where they raised their family. After the children were raised she worked part-time at Pioneer Seed by Doniphan, Nebraska. They moved to Roseland in 1998 so their son Kevin could continue to farm the homestead. She was on a bowling team and was a devoted Catholic. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society. She made lots and lots of quilts and donated them to the poor and Indian reservations. She used to tell her husband when he helped "it was stair steps to heaven." She made stuff animals for her children and grandchildren. She taught herself how to sew; she even made her daughter her wedding dress. She loved to garden and work in her flowers. Family ties were very important to her. She was always giving to others, giving her best and saving the worst for herself. She never wanted credit for all the things she did for others. She was always known as the peacemaker, always turning the other cheek.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Lucille I. Oxley, Marie Rosenau, Martha Rohner, Katherine Hoggatt, and Vera Kathman; and six brothers, Herman, Bob, Ed, Vernon, Ralph, and Ray.
