Gail G. Gurney, 91, of 737 North 5th Avenue, Hastings, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Perkins Pavilion, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Wednesday, February 27, 2008; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel with Pastor Larry Harvey and Pastor Erica Harley officiating. Burial will be 2:00 P.M. at Oak Creek Cemetery, south of Pauline, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to South Central Nebraska Czech Society, Oak Creek Cemetery Association, Mary Lanning Hospice or Donor's Choice. Visitation will be Monday, February, 25, 2008; 5-9 P.M., Tuesday, February, 26, 2008; 9 A.M.- 9 P.M. and one hour prior to service on Wednesday.

Gail G. Gurney was born April 10, 1916 to Wilhelmina Gerle in North Platte, Nebraska. He was adopted from the Nebraska Children's Home by Valentine and Mary Olive (Scott) Gurney soon after his birth. The family lived in the Eckley community north of Guide Rock, Nebraska. They moved southwest of Cowles, Nebraska where he attended school from kindergarten through third grade. They moved northwest of Red Cloud, Nebraska to a county farm in 1925. He attended school district #33 near his home. The Gurney's then moved southwest of Bladen, Nebraska where Gail attended Catherton School for grades seven through eight. Gail graduated from Bladen High School in 1936. Gail continued to farm in the Bladen community with his father, Valentine, after the death of his mother in 1953. In 1958, Gail was joined in marriage to Mary Ann Haba. The couple continued to reside on the Gurney farm, and in 1960 the couple was blessed with a daughter Mary Ellen. In1987 Gail and Mary retired from farming and they moved to Hastings, Nebraska.

Gail G. Gurney was preceded in death by his parents, half sister, Dorothy Mae Parikrupa and half brother John Parikrupa.

Half Brother: David Lee Parikrupa - Omaha, NE
